Laurence Crowley


laurence_crowleyLaurence Crowley joined the board of the Make-A-Wish Foundation in January 2012, bringing with him a lifetime of invaluable knowledge and industry experience.

Laurence Crowley graduated with a B.Comm from UCD, and then moved on to qualify as an accountant before commencing work with SKC (now known as KPMG) specialising in the area of insolvency. His career, which has spanned decades has seen him work as Executive Chairman of PJ Carroll, Director at Rothmans International, Director, Deputy Governor and ultimately Governor of Bank of Ireland, Founding Chairman of the Smurfit Business School at UCD.

Laurence is currently Chairman of Realex Payments, Ecocem (manufacturers of a “green cement” available in 3 countries), Midletown Centre for Autism. He also holds Directorships at Aer Lingus and the E.S.R.I.

Laurence has been conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in Laws by the National University of Ireland for his services to Education Subsequently he was awarded an Honorary C.B.E by HRH Queen Elizabeth II for his work in Northern Ireland.

Laurence commented on his appointment to the Make-A-Wish Ireland Board: “I am thrilled to be joining Make-A-Wish Ireland. I have long been a supporter of the foundation and the amazing work that they do for children living across Ireland living with life-threatening illnesses and I very much look forward to working with them.”

This review was based on an assessment of our organisational practice against the recommended actions for each principle.
