… to be a Naval Officer

Oran age 10, living with Burkitt’s Syndrome wished to be a Naval Officer for a day…
On Monday 25th August 2014 his wish came true, when he was piped aboard the L.E. Aoife as Commander Oran. He realised that he was going to command the high-tech ship around the harbour – he was absolutely thrilled. Throughout the day he issued orders, visited the different areas of the ship, received a VIP lunch and tour of the Haulbowline Naval Base and lots more top secret activities.

A MASSIVE thank you to the Irish Naval Service who became true wishgranters on the day, dedicating themselves to ensure Oran had the most magical time!Smiling 25/08/14 Lt Cdr Marie Glesson presenting Oran Martin with his Appiontment to Command a State Ship cert onboard LÉ Aoife 25/08/2014 Lt Cdr Marie Gleeson,Oran Martin, Ellen Martin, Maria O'Callaghan. bk L Andrew Duhig & Catherine Airey Onboard LÉ Aoife 25/08/2014 Oran Martin with S/LT Aisling O'Flynn Onboard LÉ Aoife Saluting LÉ Aisling as she passes down the port side 25/08/2014 Catherine Airey ,Oran Martin, Captain David Barry Officer Commanding Naval Operations Command, Ellen Martin, Andrew Duhig.
