Leaving a Gift in your Will

A legacy is when you leave a sum of money in your will to a charitable cause. How much you choose to leave is up to you, but every single legacy, no matter how large or small, will make a significant difference to the children of Make-A-Wish Ireland. Leaving a legacy to Make-A-Wish Foundation Ltd in your Will allows you to give a wonderful gift, without affecting your financial situation today.

When making a will, you have the unique chance to provide for an organisation that you care about and leave a lasting contribution. Make-A-Wish Foundation Ltd, our Wish Families and our Volunteers thank you for considering Make-A-Wish Foundation Ltd.

Making a Will

Making a will is extremely important, whether or not you plan to leave a legacy, because it’s the only way for you to ensure that your wishes on how your money should be used after your death are followed.

Fortunately, making a Will could not be more straightforward. If you already have a solicitor, all you need to do is talk to them about building your will. If you do not already have a solicitor, you will need to find a solicitor who can draw up a will for you. This is very simple. Making a will is one of the basic services that almost every solicitor would provide.

We have listed below some of the preparations that we suggest you might make prior to visiting with your solicitor about making your Will:

Put together a list of your assets
Consider whether there are any items you might wish to leave to specific people Confirm who will be the Executors of your Will. These are the people who will administer your estate and carry out your instructions. It should be someone that you trust and who has some knowledge of your affairs

Leaving a Gift
If you would like to remember Make-A-Wish Foundation Ltd. in your Will, there are two main types of legacy that you can leave in your Will:

A Residuary Bequest
A Residuary Legacy is a gift of the residue, or share of the residue, of your estate, after other bequests to your family and close friends have been looked after and all debts, taxes and expenses have been paid. Generally, this is the kind of legacy that is of the greatest benefit to us as its value increase in line with the value of your estate.

If you are making a residuary gift, below is an example of the text can be used in your will:

“I give to Make-A-Wish Foundation Limited of 2 Leopardstown Business Centre, Ballyogan Avenue, Leopardstown, Dublin 18, Ireland, all (or a fraction) of the residue of my estate whatsoever and wheresoever, and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other officer for the time being of the said Organisation shall be a full and sufficient discharge of the same.”

A Pecuniary Bequest
A Pecuniary Legacy is where you state in your will that a specific sum of money, determined when the Will is written, will go to a particular charity, or charities of your choice.

If you are making a gift of a fixed sum or specific item, below is an example of the text that can be used in your will:

“I give the sum of €_____ to Make-A-Wish Foundation Limited of 2 Leopardstown Business Centre, Ballyogan Avenue, Leopardstown, Dublin 18, Ireland, and I direct that the Treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of the said Organisation shall be proper and sufficient discharge for the same.”
