Mia’s Wish

To have a shopping spree

Meet Mia, an inspiring 15-year-old girl from Kildare. Mia was diagnosed with cancer at a young age and has undergone two surgeries and three rounds of chemotherapy.

Despite her illness, Mia remains upbeat and positive, with her mam Lisa telling us how she “brings all of us joy daily.”

Mia’s favourite colour is blue, and if she could be anything she would be the president! She loves President Michael D. Higgins and especially his beloved Bernese Mountain Dog.

When volunteers Peter and Annabel spoke with Mia to discover her wish, they learned that Mia loves fashion, nails, and makeup. She had been changing her closet to get rid of clothes that reminded her of her illness, and to have a new wardrobe would be the perfect reset for her. She has also started running with her mam and would love a new pair of runners!

Mia wished to have a shopping spree, and her wish came to life this month in Dundrum. Mia, Mam Lisa, Dad Sean and her brother Sean all travelled to the Clayton Hotel in Leopardstown. Mia and her Mam started off her wish in Dundrum where they visited Mudpie Beauty Cottage for a manicure. Afterwards, they walked over to Brown Thomas where they met with Beauty Department Manager Rachel and Beauty Stylist Ellen! Rachel and Ellen gave them a tour of the beauty department, followed by facials and a personalised makeup tutorial for Mia! Lisa later told us that this was Mia’s favourite part of her wish, and that she loved learning beauty tips from stylist Ellen.

After the pampering and beauty advice, Mia went from shop to shop picking out stylish pieces to create a fresh new wardrobe!  Mia and family then all headed off to Go Quest for an afternoon filled with fun, food and games! They enjoyed time together to relax and connect as a family. Lisa told us afterwards: “It really exceeded our expectations, we were quite emotional about it, it gave us a chance to sit back together and just enjoy the few days as a family.”

A massive thanks to volunteers Peter and Annabel, as well as Clayton Hotels, Brown Thomas, Mudpie Beauty Cottage and Go Quest for helping us to make Mia’s wish to come true.

Together we can make a difference for children.

Make-A-Wish Ireland has one simple aim – to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, to bring hope, strength and happiness.

With your kind support, you can help us achieve that aim.
