About Us

Make-A-Wish  Ireland has one simple aim – to grant the wishes of children with critical medical conditions, to bring hope, strength and happiness.

Since 1992, Make-A-Wish Ireland has granted wishes for more than 3,250 brave children across Ireland, including 197 wishes granted in 2023 alone. A wish granted is true magic for the child, providing respite from their normal routines of hospitals, doctors and treatment. Make-A-Wish Ireland does not receive any government funding and relies overwhelmingly on the kindness of the Irish public to continue granting wishes.

As a well-respected and popular children’s charity, Make-A-Wish Ireland is fully committed to providing the maximum level of care and enjoyment for our children and their families. This is achieved through a combination of professionalism, attention to detail and sensitivity. Nothing is too much trouble for a wish child.

In all possible cases, Make-A-Wish Ireland ensures that all immediate family members can participate in the child’s wish. In doing so the family can create lasting, happy memories.

Make-A-Wish Ireland is ‘triple locked’ by Charities Institute Ireland for best practice in transparency and accountability.

Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with serious illnesses.

How it all began...

Make-A-Wish traces its inspiration to Christopher James Greicius, an energetic 7-year-old boy battling leukemia who wishes to be a police officer. In 1980, his Phoenix community came together to make his wish come true. Little did Chris know that his wish would create a movement that would transform millions of lives.

With your generous support we can make the dreams of seriously ill children come true.

Our Mission

We grant wishes to children who are living with life-threatening illnesses.
We bring hope, joy and lasting memories to each wish child and their families.

Our Vision

To grant a wish for every eligible child living in Ireland as an integral part of their treatment journey.

Make-A-Wish Ireland has a dedicated Team, Board and Ambassadors who work tirelessly to ensure that the dreams and wishes of thousands of children with life-threatening medical conditions are granted.

Our Board provide invaluable expertise and leadership, whilst our specially selected Ambassadors are committed to sharing the Make-A-Wish Ireland story. Our Wish Team, along with our valued volunteers, ensure that wish comes true in exactly the way the children imagined it (or better!).
