Doreen wished for a shopping spree day that all about her and full of the things she loved.
Things got started two weeks early when a surprise package arrived at the door with books, pyjamas, and a pink (her favourite colour) tracksuit to wear on her big day. Doreen was just delighted with all her presents and to have something nice and new to wear for her big day.
Together with her mum and nurse Yvonne, Doreen travelled up from Waterford to Dundrum Town Centre where she started by getting her nails done. Then they went around the shops, getting spoiled along the way. Doreen’s mum Florence said that everyone at Smiggle, Art and Hobby and Build-A-Bear were so kind, and it meant so much to them that everyone made a fuss for Doreen.
“The shopping spree gave Doreen a space on her own to express herself in the clothes she wanted. She sang all the way home and loved her shopping spree. Doreen loved the day so much and so did Yvonne and me. It was brilliant.
Doreen felt very special and spoiled. It gave us all a huge smile on our faces that Make-A-Wish was so kind with the spree. Doreen feels more grown up after shopping in Dundrum with her card.” – Doreen’s mum
Doreen spent weeks showing off all her new clothes and toys to her family and nurses when they came to visit after her wish. She’s delighted to be the centre of attention and has had so much fun playing with her craft books and nail polish since, helping her wish to be more than just a day out.
