Mary Doll is 6-years-old and had her second major surgery just before Christmas.
Despite her difficult journey, Mary always has a smile on her face. She loves the colour pink, and enjoys going to school, having made lots of friends in her senior infants class.
Mary Doll had never been to the Zoo and she wished to see a monkey for the first time ever! She also wanted to enjoy the day with her family, and give mum a break from cooking.
On the morning of her wish, with the help of Keogh tours, a private bus collected Mary Doll and her family and brought them to Dublin Zoo.
Mary Doll and her family toured of the Zoo, enjoying feeding the seals, learning about the tigers, hi-fiving a red panda and of course, an encounter with Mary Doll’s favourite, the monkeys! Afterwards, they all tucked into a tasty lunch at the Meerkat restaurant, giving Mum Maggie a well deserved break from cooking, and allowing the family to laugh and enjoy some quality time together.
Mum told us “ It made everyone forget about the medical side of things for a day and be a normal family on a day trip, with the support of everyone. We loved the fact we didn’t have to think of anything, we just had to be ready for the transfer to the Zoo. It gave us a day off from having to think of everything, and we needed our nursing support to make this happen.
A huge thank you to volunteer Christina, the incredible nursing support of Olga and of course Andrew and the entire team at Dublin Zoo for making Mary Dolls Day so special.
