Patrick lives with a number of critical conditions affecting his brain and spine, and undergoes regular treatment at University Hospital Limerick. He suffered a stroke in 2021, and is currently receiving end of life treatment at The Children’s Ark. It was here where his nurse, Patsie, referred him to receive his wish.
Patrick responds well to sensory lights and he has a passion for music. After meeting with Patrick and his mum, Veronika, it was clear getting a blessing in Knock would be their ultimate wish for Patrick
Due to his complex needs, he needed to be transported by ambulance on his wish day. We got in touch with our friends at Bumbulance, who helped us helped to transport Patrick and his family to and from Knock.
When the day arrived, Patrick and his mum travelled to Knock, and they were met on arrival by volunteer Louise, who gave them a tour of the site. They were then met by Father Gibbons, who blessed Patrick, with the Choir singing loudly in the background.
Afterwards, Patrick got to experience his very own room, ‘Patricks’s Room’, complete with music and sensory lighting, allowing him to feel calm and relaxed. They even played music from ‘The Sound Of Music’ , Patrick’s favourite musical!
His mum told us afterwards: Thanks a million for every detail that you prepared. I woke up the next morning not knowing if the day was just a dream. The sound of music playing for Patrick, the choir who sang for him, and his blessing, it truly was the best day of our lives.
A huge thank you to Bumbulance, Volunteer Louise, Father Gibbon’s, and everybody who helped to make Patricks wish so special.
