Sean is living with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, and is currently receiving chemotherapy treatment at Cork University Hospital.
His mum Aileen told us that “his diagnosis came as a huge shock. He was admitted to his local hospital for what we thought was an asthma attack, and just a week later, he began emergency treatment.” She told us that Sean “has been incredibly positive and motivated throughout, even though the process has been mentally challenging.”
Sean initially believed that he was “not sick enough” to receive a wish, but his social worker Katie encouraged him to apply. When our volunteers, Lindsay and Emma met with Sean to learn more about him, they discovered that he was “absolutely golf-mad.” He had just picked up the sport, as he used to play a lot of contact sport but he no longer could due to his illness.
Sean wished for new golfing equipment to help him get started, and he and his family were in for a few surprises along the way… On the day of his wish, Sean, along with his uncle and brother, collected their new golf equipment from American Golf, and travelled to the fabulous Mount Juliet Estate Next, the family enjoyed playing a round of golf and even got to meet and chat to Henry Shefflin as he made his way through the course. Afterwards, they were treated to an incredible meal at Mount Juliet’s award-winning restaurant, ‘The Hound’.
Mum Aileen told us: “Sean had a blast! Mount Juliet were amazing and he got a great buzz meeting Henry Shefflin. Sean is really into his food and a little bit of a chef himself so the meal on Saturday night was brilliant (that’s high praise from him!).” A huge thank you to volunteers Lindsay and Emma, Henry Shefflin and everybody at Mount Juliet for helping us to make Sean’s wish come true.
