Fíonn’s Wish

To have a ride along tractor

From the time Fíonn could walk and talk all he's ever been fascinated with is being able to drive tractors, diggers and cars.

Fíonn was born prematurely weighting 2.5 pounds.  As part of Fionn’s diagnosis, his parents were told he would never drive or operate any cars or machinery when he is older which is a massive heartbreak for them.

When Fíonn met with Volunteers Emma & Michelle, he loved telling them about his passion for driving and spending time with his Grandad in the tractor. Fionn has overcome so much in just 7 years of age and mum tells us “We couldn’t be more proud of the little man he has become, his determination is incredible and truly an inspiration to all.”

Fíonn’s wish and the why behind his wish was very clear, to have his very own John Deere ride along tractor.  Fíonn’s wish day was a very emotional, overwhelming, and excited morning. Flashing lights and sirens sounded the arrival of local Gardai from Abbeyleix, who were delighted to support with revealing Fíonn’s wish.  When they arrived, Fionn declared “but I didn’t do anything wrong” and produced his Driver’s licence!  The good news was Fíonn passed the Garda checkpoint, ready to take ownership of his new John Deere tractor!

Fíonn zoomed around and had great fun practicing his driving skills. When the time was right, Fíonn’s little sister joined him in the hitch trailer on the back, cheered on by family and friends.

Garda Martin told us “I think Fionn’s face when he saw the tractor says it all. It is an experience I will never forget”.

Fionn’s Mum told us “We have a very happy and lucky boy who deserved every minute of this. The love and support from all family and friends means the world to us all. We are blessed with such good kindness.”

A massive thank you to the Abbeyleix Garda Station especially Garda Martin, Garda Quinlan & Sgt Carey for their wonderful delivery and presentation of the John Deere Tractor to Fíonn, and to volunteers Emma, Michelle, Margaret & Ciara who captured special moments on the day. A community wish like Fionn’s is a memorable experience shared with family and friends, strengthening connections, and creating lasting memories. We hope Fionn has many adventures in his new wheels.

Together we can make a difference for children.

Make-A-Wish Ireland has one simple aim – to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, to bring hope, strength and happiness.

With your kind support, you can help us achieve that aim.
